Shape of Water (2020)
Duration: 00:01:00 loop, Format: 1080p HD

Shape of Water is an experimental animation that uses slow motion and digital distortion to reshape our perception of fragmented forms. Each isolated element becomes a portal, revealing its connection to a larger, unified whole. Through this visual exploration, the work reflects on the delicate balance between individuality and collectivity, inviting viewers to contemplate the infinite depth contained within each singular part of a greater system.

"For Lin, the fluidity and shapelessness of water represent Yin, the feminine energy of intuitiveness, caring and embracement. Although in isolation, a drop of water is forever ready to be reintergrated with the ocean, prone to be embraced by the vastness of nature. Lin's artistic language reveals her interests in science fiction and her desire to form a new connection with nature in the age of isolation and technology. The haunting and eerie sounds of whales on the background, together with the monochromatic liquid movements put on a futuristic atmosphere. Lin brought us shape of water from an undiscovered waterbody that is running quietly and secretly under or nearby the busy streets of cities. "
